ANĐELKOVIĆ: RESOLUTION PROVES SERBS HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN EVIL COMMITTED IN NDH
BELGRADE, MARCH 18 /SRNA/ – Historian Dragomir Anđelković assesses the Republika Srpska National Assembly’s Resolution condemning and banning the promotion and glorification of the symbols and ideology of the Ustasha NDH, as well as the symbols and ideology of Nazism and fascism, is significant as it demonstrates that Serbs have not forgotten the evil committed against their compatriots during World War II.
Anđelković emphasized in his SRNA statement that this is important because peoples that forget the evil done to them risk calling for it again. He pointed out that modern Europe is built on antifascism and antinazism, at least nominally, although in many countries much of what is officially rejected still exists in practice. "In line with the principles applied in Europe, it is logical that all Nazi and fascist symbols, including those of the so-called NDH, should be strictly banned in the territory of Republika Srpska," Anđelković said. This applies both in general and specifically, Anđelković says, since Serbs along with Roma and Jews, were among the few peoples subjected to classical genocide and a policy of total destruction. He recalled that, in the case of the NDH, this was carried out by the Ustasha authorities, while in other areas Nazis implemented policies of mass executions that in many places bordered on genocide. "When talking about this Resolution, we are dealing with something that is completely justified," Anđelković said. Yesterday, the Republika Srpska National Assembly unanimously adopted the resolution proposed by the parliamentary majority, condemning and deeming unacceptable ideological relativization and the revitalization of NDH ideology, as well as the denial and minimization of genocide against Serbs. The agreed resolution also contains two conclusions proposed by the SDS caucus.
